The study is conducted to analyse the reliability and validity of Indonesian crime statistics. All three kinds of crime data sources: police statistics, victimisation survey in Susenas, and neighbourhood data in Podes, are utilised and discussed.
Six non-independent parameters for validity and reliability combined are considered; content validity, criterion validity, construct validity, internal
consistency, test-retest reliability and alternate-form reliability. It is hoped that by understanding how Indonesian crime data fares in terms of reliability and validity, the future directives on policymaking and crime mitigation efforts are able to benefit more from the crime data given the advantages and limitations. The research is conducted on mixed method perspective and the primary data source is obtained from data mining, literature study and content analysis. Result obtained is ambivalent, with considerable content validity, test-retest reliability and their alternate-form reliability, while ensuing problems are detected otherwise.
