This article studies the act of publishing sexual violence incidents on the Internet to seek justice, often referred
to as viral-based justice (Triastuti, 2022). It is becoming a common last resort for sexual assault victims to seek
justness through digital spaces. In Indonesia, many victims of sexual crime are still hesitant to voice their
encounters with sexual abuse (KPPA, 2020) due to conservative perspectives on the subject (Triastuti, 2022) and
the complex reporting mechanism (IJRS, 2021). Hence, social media, providing anonymity, allows victims of
sexual harassment to strive for their deserved justice through virality. However, discussions regarding the
potential harm this method may yield have also emerged. Considering Goldenberg and Gross? (2020) digital
emotion contagion theory to understand the viral occurrence of #JusticeForAudrey in 2019, this article
problematises the pros and cons of viral-based justice. Furthermore, it will reflect on viral-based justice in a time
when sexual violence is increasingly urgent.
