AbstrakThis article explains how to make memes and movies on TikTok, a social networking platform, as a coping mechanism for social media users who suffer from substance use disorder. Every year, over 20 million Americans fulfil the diagnostic criteria for a substance use disorder (SUD). Likewise, only 10% of these people obtain treatment. Over 22 million Americans have overcome previous alcohol or drug issues; the vast majority did so without seeking official addiction treatment, for example, by gaining support from family members, support groups, or even by utilising social media. By applying George Homan?s social exchange theory and looking at the rising popularity of TikTok and Instagram users that specifically use their pages to express their past SUD recovery, this article investigates the impact given by the SUD survivors? content on the public.
