Abstrak
Food waste is a major global challenge with significant impacts on the environment, economy, and society. As a major contributor to food waste, Indonesia has initiated several programs to address this issue. This study investigates the driving forces behind these efforts, focusing on the role of global governance and its influence at the national level. This research uses qualitative data from official documents, policy reports, conferences, and dialogues with stakeholders to uncover that global governance exerts significant influence on national policy-making. It applies the concept of global governance, particularly focusing on the way international norms, such as the SDGs, shape national strategies and policies. The study identifies political, economic, and environmental factors as key motivators for these measures. The findings suggest that despite progress in policy-making and stakeholder engagement, Indonesia faces challenges in implementation, public awareness, and infrastructure improvement. The influence of global governance is evident in the formulation of national strategies, highlighting the necessity for improved coordination between agencies and more robust public education initiatives to combat food waste effectively. This thesis contributes to the academic discourse by offering an extensive examination of Indonesia?s approach, underlining the relationship between international norms and domestic practices. It emphasizes the importance of food waste reduction policies to fit the specific conditions of each country. The results also have wider implications for other developing countries seeking to align their domestic policies with global sustainability targets.
